SANTA BABY!

This past weekend we had a blast visiting with Santa... Well actually we waited close to 3 hours and spent about 2 min with Santa! Well it was definitely worth it! Riley did something that she had never done before.

The entire time that she was in Santa's lap she stuck out her tongue! We were laughing so hard. Well as if the Santa Camera boys weren't intimidated enough by my Cannon Mark II they had to deal with capturing a great photo of Riley. Well they succeeded with the tongue hanging out an all.

It is the moments like these when I am giggling away that the most magical family photo opportunities present themselves. Most may not have liked the images of her with the tongue hanging out but for me it was priceless. This is the real moment that will make Bill and I chuckle years later. RED Door!

Talk about a beautiful family! I had so much fun photographing the Smith Family! Brenna and John have two of the most amazing children! I must add that Brenna has amazing taste. Her children were dressed so cute! The adventure of every family shoot is so much fun! Thanks so much for allowing me to get creative! The images are definitely worth it!

Also, Brenna has expressed an interest in learning more about capturing wonderful family images. She is about the 10th person that has approached me in the last month for some photographic direction! So folks... It is official! I will be launching a day long seminar for Mothers who would like to capture the amazing moments that unfold daily! Stay tuned for Seminar Details. The seminar will be held Late Jan or Feb 2007. What a wonderful holiday gift this could be for someone. The cost of the seminar is $225 with a limited number of seats. We are so lucky to have great photographer friends. Krystal and Matt of KOR photo took these amazing photos of our family! It was the best gift ever. It is next to impossible to get family photos these days with Riley hitting the terrific two's! We will always cherish these! Matt and Krystal are extremely talented and definitely AMAZING people! Today while visiting in Birmingham with my photographer friend Arden Ward we conqured a bridal shoot like no other. Sara, the bride really rocked it! Sara wed in October in Texas and wanted to do bridal shoots upon her return. I love, love, love this approach because brides tend to feel more relaxed since there is less intimidation about getting the dress dirty and the general anxiety that occures on the day of the wedding is no longer there. What fun we had. Arden had a couple of fun accessories handy! What a smashing complement for a funky shoot. If you are interested in doing something like this after your wedding or even before...contact the studio for additional information. The rate for the creative fee is $350.

Here are some wonderful pages from the Celebration album of Ed and Inge. The couple wed in Italy last May. I was fortunate to be comissioned to capture and in August celebrated with family and friends at Golden Ocala. The floral designs were by Dan Hathcock of Floral Events. The event was coordinated by Melissa of Masterpiece weddings.

The bride and groom wrote the most beautiful saying to put in their album on the first and last page. Enjoy!

I was so fortunate to have been comissioned to capture the vows of Ed and Inge last May when they tied the Knot in Tuscany, Italy. I really do have the best job! A lot of thought went into the design of this album as well as every album. When the studio completed the design and forwarded the album for print and binding with Asuka Book we were shortly contacted with such nice praises for the design of this album. Wendi, the business development manager, contacted the studio later to notify us that they wanted to showcase this wedding album design as their "Book of the Month". This is definately a big deal since they see national and international book desings.

I was so thrilled to see the posting hit the Asuka site today! Thank you Asuka Book for offering a truly unique option for wedding photographers to showcase their work in a non traditional way!

S&S - in the SWAMP

We in the trenches of football season and it is bringing many fun photo shoots at the Florida SWAMO! LOVE IT. Today was no exception. I hooked up with Scott and Suzy this afternoon. There is this trend going on right now where couples with the same first initial are hooking up. Did you notice VV in a previous post? Anyway, I had such a blast because these two couldn't stop laughing with me.

S&S are going to tie the knot at the beautiful Baughman Center with the reception to follow at Elegant Savannah Grand. After we headed over to Salty Dog for a much needed beer. It was surprisingly hot this afternoon and we had all worked up a thirst! It was so much fun to sit and chill out with this couple and learn more about their wedding plans and a little about their past together.

I love hearing about people's engagement stories but I have to say that theirs really tops it. Scott planned a trip to Colorado in July. They headed off for a hike in the mountains on the quest to the top where two beautiful lakes sat. Scott was telling me that on the way up he was telling himself something like only 1 hour till go time. I can't even begin to imagine what guys go through planning out the perfect proposal. Once at the top and Suzy accepted the beautiful proposal they were visited by a little chipmunk. In the attempt to get a little entertainment they began feeding the chipmunk a little granola bar. The chipmunk just stashed a piece at a time and its cheeks were all puffed out. They say that they have a picture... I hope they forward it to me so I can post it. Scott whipped out a image from the camera phone of the location where he purposed... it was breathtaking...the mountains reflected in the lake below. Beautiful. What a fun memory. And what is really special is that they now have this cool location to visit to remember this wonderful experience they shared.

I also found out that from the ceremony location to the reception site they have very special transportation. Scott's father has a car... I can't remember what it is called but apparently there were only four in the country made. It is an old fashion and classy convertible. Definitely going to make for some amazing images!

Anyway... You two rock and thanks for chillin' out with me this afternoon in the SWAMP! I look forward to June 16th.

My little Wonder Woman...

In the spirit of Halloween we got Riley all decked out in Wonderwoman Garb. She really loved the costume. We had to peel it off her at the end of the night. This was her first year officially trick-or-treating. She hit the streets in real superhero fassion and filled up her bag and tried to eat some on the way home. She was soooooooo into it. I am sure that she is dreaming of next years Halloween right now.

The finished Sample save the date design for Vanessa and Vaughn... I LOVE it. This couple is such a blast. Their wedding is going to push the limits of fun for their guests! I can not wait until May to capture the events unfolding on their wedding. How cool is it that their first names both begin with a V.

Tonight when Vanessa was here helping to design the cards she clued me in on a cool invitation design company called Momental Designs. Check it out... They hand paint invitations. Talk about a custom, one of a kind idea. Very cool... only the best for V&V!

Bethanie and Phil... Brunch under the Sun

We had the pleasure of capturing Bethanie and Phil's wedding at the Casa Marina in JAX Beach. This is such a beautiful venue and one that I am sure every quest enjoyed. Bethanie and Phil are one of those amazing couples that you just know were meant to be together. Their love for one another is evident in their every move. It was truly an honor and pleasure to wittness this special time in their lives.

Though there were a few funny hitches, including 1 missing tux and a delay at the hair salon, everyone in this intimate wedding was there for them and a minor delay was not a worry. Lord knows that these two were meant to be together. Blessings to you both and from the bottom of my heart we wish you the best. Enjoy the amazing Honeymoon in St. Lucia.

This afternoon after the wedding I photographed at the Casa Marina in Jacksonville I joined up with Sierra and Brock for their engagement session. We had a blast. They brought their dog Charlie along for some fun and games. He was the perfect accessory. There is nothing like bringing a dog to the beach. I couldn't stop laughing because Charlie was in heaven. Check out the photo with Charlie making the funny face. Brock had the Frisbee in his hand and With out a doubt it was the only thing that Charlie wanted.

I am so excited about how the images turned out. New locations for engagement sessions bring an exciting zest to the images. Sierra and Brock,you two are so much fun to work with. I can barly even wait to photograph their wedding which will be Elkhart Lake, WI in August! Oh how I love the destination weddings!

You two have such an amazing chemistry that my camera loves! Thanks for the fun and enjoy the images!

I received an e-mail saying that I have been selected to join one of the most desired wedding associations. I am officially a member of the WPJA (wedding photojournalist association). I am so excited to have my work recognized with this great honor.

So what is the WPJA???

Persimmons anyone??

I love photographing new scenery. Today was no exception. I had the honor of photographing Amber and Chad on their property which has well over 100 persimmon trees. Alright, if you are like me I really didn’t know what a persimmons were. Silly me. :)

Here is what I found:

Persimmon fruits are eaten both fresh and dried. In Korean culture, a punch called sujeonggwa is made from dried persimmons. Also in Korea, vinegar is made from persimmons.[1] In some Chinese cultures, dried persimmon leaves are used for tea.
Persimmon pudding is a traditional American dessert using fresh persimmons. An annual Persimmon Festival is held every September in Mitchell, Indiana, that features a persimmon pudding contest. Persimmon pudding is a baked pudding that has the consistency of pumpkin pie but resembles a brownie and is almost always topped with whipped cream.

Hitting the Streets of St. Augustine

Saturday before the wedding I joined up with Dina and Jeff to photograph their engagement session. This was such a fun way to start my stay in St. Augustine. Dina had commissioned me to photograph their wedding in March of 2007 at the Garden Club in Jacksonville. This was the first time that we met and it felt like we knew each other forever. They couldn't stop laughing and snuggling! It was perfect! It was biketoberfest in St. Augustine so we took advantage of the scenery and Dina and Jeff didn't hesitate to play it up on the Bike. I have learned that with two cameras slung on your arms you can get a permission slip to do almost anything!

I am so excited to photograph the wedding. Thanks for putting it on for the camera.

B is for {beautiful}

Words cannot describe the pure beauty that we were able to witness this past Saturday at the wedding of Christie and Andrew. The wedding took place at the cathedral in St. Augustine and the reception followed at the Casa Monica Hotel. Flowers were created by the wonderful 57 treasury.

This wedding was so beautiful because it illustrated the meaning of loving and growing together. You see, Christie and Andrew have been dating since the 9th grade. Their love has blossomed into an eternal union that they both covet. It was amazing to witness this ceremony take place because of the fact that it is so rare to find someone so early in your life that you call you husband or wife. These two are madly in love and it definitely shows.

Thanks so much for making me a part of this special day. I absolutely loved being there with you both.

Have fun in Mexico on you honeymoon Mr. & Mrs. Kail!

Yesterday I had so much fun meeting Melissa of Masterpiece Weddings little nieces. They are all of 8 weeks old and such a blessing. We were creating some fun concepts that could be used for Holiday cards and Holiday gifts. I think we nailed it! Thanks to little Peyton and Sydney for being such beautiful models!

At the wedding of Erin Pyle and Brian Kravitz this past weekend during the ceremony Erin's mom wrote the sweetest poem about their love for one another. It truly amazes me that she wrote something so beautiful about their love from her perspective. This type of approach is so wonderful because it makes the ceremony so personal. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Thanks so much for sharing this with me!

SURPRISE!

Bill and I had the biggest surprise this evening. The timing couldn't have been better either. I was hanging out with Riley down the street and when I got home, Bill told me that I would never believe what just happened. A million things ran through my head but never in a million years could I believe what he told me.

Meghan, from the engagement session on Friday brought over her special lasagna, sweet potato pie (great granny's recipe) some vino and garlic rolls. The dinner the sweetest way to say thank for the fun engagement session. This was such a wonderful surprise. The amazing thing is that we had absolutely no clue what we were going to have for dinner. But what is even stranger is that Bill told me that he was trying to find a way to get me to cook lasagna tonight for him! Wow... Thanks sooooooooooo much Meghan!

PS – Dinner was amazing... I am going to try and hit you up for the recipe... it was my first sweet potato pie & I loved it!

Sunday evening was the best possible way to end an exceptional week. I thank everyone who made my week so memorable. This evening was special because I got to photograph a couple very much in love. Meghan came to through a referral Solutions Bridal and we quickly hit it off and realized that she is studying education while also nannying. Of course with her gentle nature it was a must for me to want to get her to watch Riley my little munchkin. Riley adores her and so do we. I finally got to meet James who is in the Air Force and maintaining somewhat of a long distance thing until the wedding. The are amazing together and their energy is contagious. Bill and I are so excited about your wedding this December in Titusville, FL.

Every time the calendar moves another day closer to my birthday I spend time reflecting on the past year. In many ways my birthday is my new year. I am so thrilled to say that all that I have hoped for has come true over the past year. I began my adventures as an international photographer capturing 2 weddings in Italy in the spring. My wonderful husband has now joined he CJ Photographer team and my daughter is growing up healthy and sharing so much laughter with me… I can barley stand it!

While reflecting on the past year I have to visit exactly how it is that I got so lucky in life. I must say it is because I am a dreamer! To some that may be a scary thing. But to me it is a must to find adventure in everyday! I have posted an image of what got me to begin dreaming big. It is my inspiraton“Feather” that sits in my office for all to see when they come and visit. My little bear that I got from a stay at the W hotel in San Francisco that says “take life one dream at a time”. Talk about living my dream. Now another year approaches and as I blow out that little birthday candle you had better expect that I will be dreaming BIG!

Keep your eyes open for your inspiration feather and don't forget to Dream BIG!

An afternoon of Pure Fun!

Life is truly amazing! The places we go and the people we meet we must always appreciate. The Mangan Family is definitely a family to celebrate knowing. Since working with Amy Mangan, a brilliant editor for Ocala Style and published writer for such popular magazines as Southern Living, I have learned much about grace and humility. Amy approaches all things with a masterful mind wheather it be aiding friends in decorating, developing creative concepts, or sending out the “SOUGHT AFTER” Christmas cards.

Amy approaches all things with much charm and charisma. She will make you feel like you are the most important person in the room. Quite an amazing quality to share, and definitely a treasure that anyone who knows Amy gets to experience. Today was such a pleasure because I was able to play with the entire family while taking images for their “sought after” holiday cards the Mangan Family sends out annually. So what makes these cards so “sought after”? It definitely would be her personal touches and brief snapshot into the family life through her captivating writing.

Gillian & Griffin and of course Honey the doggie, Cheers to you all! You are truly a pleasure for any photographer to photograph…. And of course the same goes for Amy and Hubby!

It is truly an honor to photograph a family who has developed a reputation for the best holiday card in town! I hope the images will hold you in high standing this year as well!

Sesame Street... LIVE! Groopie for life :)

This week I got to experience Sesame Street Live for the 2nd time. What can I say but... WOW. I have to admit that this type of event always makes me reminiscent of my childhood days, but most importantly the WOW comes from my beautiful daughter Riley's expression. She was waving and cheering for ELMO. It was quite a crack up. I wonder who will be blessed by having her as a groupie once she gets into the whole music thing. Well only time will tell! For now it's Sesame Street and that works great. I certainly don't want to have her growing up any faster than she already is!

Yesterday I just ordered my 24 inch imac. I can't wait to make the transition from PC. I know it is going to be an adjustment for sure, but one that is much needed. I got a little Surprise from David Jay... a copy of Showit Web. This is the coolest photo editing slideshow software for professional photogrpahers. Check it out the turtorials, they really give you a feel for the numerous show options available. Brides keep your eyes posted for some samples soon.

A Surprise for me!!!

I was definately surprised today. I have the most spectacular view from my office and as I was busy working away I noticed the "Flower guy" approaching the door. There is a funny thing that happens when you get flowers. You stop for a moment and take in visual moments to try and determine why you are getting flowers. I was sitting there racking my brain in the split second before I opened the card and noticed that they were from one of my couples that I get to photograph in May for their wedding. The flowers were a wonderful thank you helping get the items prepared for their amazing save the date cards.

Thank you Erika and Jeff. You put the biggest smile on my face and it wasn't even my birthday!

Just a tid bit... One of my favorite romantic movies is Bed of Roses with Christian Slater. Check it out if you haven't... it is definately a chick flick. This movie touches on the feeling of giving and recieving flowers! LOVE IT!

Madhatter Tea Party - Bridal Shower

One of the biggest blessings about my job is that people let me be that magic fly on the wall and I get to capture some of the most fabulous moments in their lives. Today was no exception. Christie celebrated her bridal party in style… HIGH style that is. The theme of the shower was Mad hatter tea party with a little champagne. The concept was so much fun. There was so much laughter and so many smiles my lens could barley keep up. There were lots of fun games including Bridal Bingo and the best hat!

One of the highlights for me was when Christie opened the gift that her sister, Breezy gave her of two framed images that I took from their engagement session. This was especially touching because it allowed me see first hand how my work as a photographer affects other people in such a wonderful way. To see her expression as she opened the two framed images…truly priceless. Way to go Breezy!

Congrats Christie and thank you for selecting me to be your photographer. I look forward to seeing you on your wedding day in St. Augustine at the Historic Casa Monica Hotel.

I just met with Erika and Jeff to design their save the date cards. I absolutely love what we designed for them. I combined their Merlot wedding color and the sleek black and white image to help tie in an elegant timeless feel. I love the combination of old meets new with the modern and classic fonts.

They will also be adding a custom image to the envelope for the stamp. I can only imagine the delight when the guests open the sleek black envelope to find this beautiful surprise within.

I had yet another wonderful evening spent taking engagement images for Vanessa and Vaughn at the football stadium at University of Florida. This was such a perfect place for these two to take their photos considering that Vanessa was a cheerleader for UF and that their romance began on campus! It was so much fun to photograph these two since they have such a playful spirit and an obvious passion for one another. They are getting married on May 26th and I absolutely love the image with the 26 prominent in the front on the stairs since this represents the occasion.

During a Sunday night rainstorm I photographed Erika and Jeff on the downtown streets for their engagement session. Before I left my house which is on the other side of town, it was pouring and because of the weather I had reservations about how the shoot was going to turn out. Once I arrived, Erika's 50's inspired style gave me inspiration...the weather cleared...and I absolutely love the images that came from the session! It is inspiring to be around people that are that much in love. Thanks for the fun time! I am looking forward to your spring wedding!

Tiffany and Ryan's Wedding

I just returned home from photographing an amazing wedding! Tiffany and Ryan exchanged vows at the Baughman Center and topped off the evening with a celebration at Eventfuls Banquet Center in Jonesville. As always, Jay's Entertainment did an amazing job setting the party for this couple. The Plant Shoppe created some beautiful floral designs for the couple. Tiffany's dress was reminiscent of "Old Hollywood". SASSY! As you can see, Bridal Barbie brought the wedding rings!

Ryan and Tiffany... I wish you a wonderful honeymooning in Jamaica. You were truly a joy and a pleasure to photograph.

Do you Highlight? Try Baliage!

Recently I traveled home and went to my old stylist who convinced me to try Baliage vs. Foils on my hair. If you haven't figured out yet, I am not a true blond. I absolutely loved the finished look that day and for months to follow. This technique allowed me to enjoy my hair longer without having to rush in to get new highlights. When I traveled back to Seattle two weeks ago my first stop was the colorist who enlightened me with this new technique. You really should look into it! Here are some bits I found about it.

"Highlights are lighter and lowlights are darker than your hair colour (I'll call them Streaks to save typing), and are an excellent alternative to an overall tint. Streaks add shine, dimension, texture, body and colour to the hair. They look best when complementing the movement of wavy or curly hair, the effects one can achieve are beautiful. Highlights are wonderful for adding colour, texture and body to thin mousy hair.

The Baliage (balayage) Technique, Chunky Highlights
Baliage is the American name (and spelling) used for the freehand application of hair colour to create very natural and chunky highlights. Baliage gives a natural beachcomber effect. Of course it's a French method of highlighting - le balayage - and means 'strands of colour' in this context, not 'to sweep', as most Americans think. However, the technique comes to us via the west coast of America. Baliage highlights, because of the 'freehand' method of application tend to be much softer than the usual 'tin foil' highlights and when applied onto select sections of hair, really emphasizes the style. Personally I'm into the not glaringly obvious, so mine are subtle!

My Advice
Because of the high degree of technical skill needed to put in a set of highlights or lowlights, they should always be done by a skilled professional hairdresser or technician. I was taught my technical colouring skills by Lester Baldwin at Ricci Burns and consider myself highly proficient (Lester is now one of the worlds great technicians). Never attempt to put them in yourself."

Today I had the pleasure of visiting with Kristin and Jason in Orlando and meeting their new addition Avery. I photographed Kristin when she was pregnant and now the special delivery is here. Little Avery is adorable. Her piercing blue eyes are so memorable. It was so precious to see how once little Emma now acted as the "Big Sis". I was hanging at the spa this weekend and picked up a magazine that featured this cool Wedding Planning Software. My Style Wedding software is the first wedding planning software of its kind that allows you to view your dream event in 3D and with interactive scenes. over the past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Maria and Waldo at my favorite two locations. The Baughman Center was where my husband and I tied the knot. The reception was held at Haile Plantation in the Village Center. I had such a wonderful time and Thanks Mrs. Mora for pulling me out on the dance floor. I can honestly say that that was a first! The wonderful mix of music was provided by Solutions Entertainment part of Solutions Bridal. I had a blast being part of this celebration.

This wedding was so special since it happened to be two dear friends who commissioned me to capture this special time in their lives. I am so excited to celebrate my daughters 2nd birthday. It is truly amazing to see how far she has come. Two years ago July 5th my daughter was born premature by 2 months. She weighed in at only 2lbs 11oz. She is truly amazing and such a delight every day. She is completely healthy and quite a drama queen! Today in preparation for her birthday bash she helped cook her first cake! She was so proud. Maybe we have a future chef in our presence. Riley is truly Mama's little girl!
